Yay, MONDAY! I get pretty excited about Mondays. Don't get me wrong: I love, love, LOVE weekends as much as the next person, but I also love Mondays! It's like a celebration of the weekend -- with the start of another week in which the possibilities are endless. To help YOU celebrate, here's a little somethin' somethin' I worked on this weekend, my Hazelnut Bourbon Sour co*cktail.
Hazelnut Bourbon Sour with Frangelico
Have you ever had Frangelico liqueur? It's a hazelnut flavored liqueur that you may recognize because of it's interesting packaging: it sort of looks like a monk. Legend has it that the name, Frangelico, is an abbreviation of Fra’ Angelico, a hermit monk believed to have inhabited thePiedmont hills of Northern Italy during the 18th century.More than 300 yearsago,Christian monks living in the area were known for their mad skills in the art ofdistilling, especially incorporating wild hazelnuts.
Mixology Monday: Hazelnut Bourbon Sour
Frangelico is a versatile liqueur that can work in the fall/winter as well as with refreshing spring/summer co*cktails. The kind folks at Frangelico sent me a bottle to create some recipes, and I had so much fun with the challenge, since hazelnut is one of my favorite sweet flavor additions.
I've combined it with two of my favorites: bourbon and lemon. Introducing: the Hazelnut Bourbon Sour.
This Bourbon Sour co*cktail is light and refreshing but also a fabulous pick me up on a cool fall day. Trust me: I had one Sunday, when Portland suddenly decided it wanted to actually feel like fall at last, and it was a delicious way to warm up on a stormy day.
Hazelnut Bourbon Sour recipe
All you need for this Hazelnut Bourbon Sour is five ingredients: Frangelico, bourbon, aromatic bitters, lemon juice, and some simple sugar.
No fancy directions here: simply pour all ingredients together over ice, give it a stir or two, then enjoy!

Ingredients
- 2 ounces Frangelico hazelnut liqueur
- 1 ounce Bourbon
- ½ ounce simple sugar equal parts sugar and water, combined
- 4-5 drops of aromatic bitters
- squeeze of lemon juice
Instructions
Pour all ingredients over ice in a glass.
Stir once.
Garnish with a lemon wedge or rind and serve.

I love this co*cktail. I just picked up some of the Frangelico last time I was at the LCBO. I hear amazing things about it. Now I know which drink to start with. Love that you're giving us all a reason to look forward to Mondays.

Wow, I could've used one of these yesterday when it was pouring! I love bourbon - Buffalo Trace is a fave. I'll definitely have to try this next time it's cold and stormy!

Orange would be delicious with this co*cktail! I love the bourbon + lemon combo, and it works well with the nuttiness of the hazelnut and makes it a refreshing co*cktail, but orange would definitely add a nice flavor as well.

I love your optimism and gratitude!! I had an equally full and fun weekend - thanks for helping me have a better Monday attitude. I am also really into this drink! It reminds me of a chocolate cake shot. I've already sent it over to my mom so we can enjoy these over the holidays.
