Three iconic Filipino soups have been rated as some of the world's best Meat Soups, according to the TasteAtlas rankings. These soups are Sinigang na Baboy, Bulalo, and Tinolang Manok.
Sinigang na Baboy came in at number 11 on the leaderboard. It is described as a savory and sour soup, featuring pork cuts simmered in tamarind fruit. The dish is related to Malaysia's singgang. There is also a Japanese variant, called sinigang na miso.
Number 17 on the list is Bulalo. "Bulalo is a comforting indulgence, especially during the colder days," said TasteAtlas. The main meat is beef shank, but there are also many vegetables including cabbage, string beans, onions, and corn.
Tinolang Manok, a Filipino chicken soup, is number 30 on the list. Various chicken cuts are bathed in a broth enriched with green papaya, chili pepper, or malunggay leaves. It is a true embodiment of Filipino comfort food.
These high rankings are a win for Filipino culinary heritage. Sinigang na Baboy and Bulalo have both previously been named among the World's 50 Best Soups. Sinigang has also been crowned the World's Number One Vegetable Soup.
